The Hurtt Fathers Advocate Corporation (HFAC) is dedicated to strengthening families, supporting fathers, empowering youth, and expanding access to opportunity through education, workforce readiness, mentorship, mental health support, leadership development, and community-based services. Our mission is to help individuals and families build stable, healthy, and successful futures while fostering stronger communities across Maryland.

Our Programs
Strengthening Families and Communities (SFAC)

With the University of Baltimore School of Law serving as a subcontractor, Strengthening Families and Communities (SFAC) is a comprehensive workforce development and pre-apprenticeship initiative that prepares opportunity youth and young adults for meaningful careers. Participants receive workforce readiness training, math and literacy instruction, life skills development, case management, financial literacy, career exploration, employer engagement, apprenticeship preparation, industry-recognized certifications, and wraparound services designed to remove barriers and create pathways to long-term success. Our goal is to equip every participant with the skills, confidence, and support needed to enter apprenticeships, secure meaningful employment, and build lifelong careers.

Achieving Our Dreams (AOD)
​
With the University of Baltimore School of Law serving as a subcontractor, Achieving Our Dreams (AOD) is a comprehensive workforce development initiative that helps youth, young adults, and families overcome barriers while preparing for successful futures. Through math and literacy instruction, workforce readiness, life skills training, case management, financial literacy, apprenticeship preparation, employer partnerships, and comprehensive wraparound services, participants receive the education, guidance, and support needed to pursue apprenticeships, employment, higher education, and long-term career success. We believe every individual deserves the opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Viral 4 A Vision (V4V)
​
Viral 4 A Vision is a digital media and workforce initiative that prepares youth, young adults, entrepreneurs, and small businesses for success in today’s digital economy. Participants gain hands-on experience in content creation, branding, digital marketing, AI tools, storytelling, public speaking, social media strategy, monetization, business development, and entrepreneurship while developing communication, leadership, and career-ready skills that can lead to employment, business ownership, and financial independence.

Confidence in the Community
​
Confidence in the Community helps fathers confidently show up for the moments that matter most. Through professional clothing, personal care items, and other essential resources, we help fathers attend family court hearings, their children’s school events, graduations, sporting events, parent-teacher conferences, job interviews, and other important milestones with confidence and dignity.
​
We believe every father deserves the opportunity to make a positive first impression, remain actively involved in his children’s lives, and be present during life’s most meaningful moments. By helping fathers look and feel their best, we build confidence, strengthen family relationships, and remove barriers that can stand in the way of opportunity.

Father Retreats
​
Our Father Retreats provide fathers with an opportunity to step away from the pressures of everyday life and focus on their mental wellness, personal growth, and relationships. Through peer support, leadership development, outdoor experiences, and meaningful conversations, fathers strengthen their parenting skills, improve their emotional well-being, and return home better equipped to lead, support, and nurture their families.

Mental Health & Therapy
​
Strong families begin with healthy individuals. Through trusted community partnerships, HFAC connects fathers, youth, young adults, and families with licensed mental health professionals, counseling, and wellness resources. We believe emotional wellness is essential to strengthening families, overcoming adversity, and building healthier communities.

Advocacy & Family Support
​
HFAC provides advocacy, mentorship, education, and coordinated support that helps fathers, youth, young adults, and families overcome barriers and access the resources they need to succeed. Through community partnerships, referrals, and personalized guidance, we connect participants with workforce opportunities, educational resources, financial literacy, mental health services, and other essential supports that create lasting change.

Through workforce development, pre-apprenticeship training, math and literacy instruction, digital media education, mentorship, advocacy, wraparound services, mental health support, leadership development, fatherhood engagement, and strong community partnerships, we help fathers, youth, young adults, and families overcome barriers, discover their potential, and build brighter futures.

The Problem We Are Solving
Thousands of fathers, youth, young adults, and families across Maryland face barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Many young adults want stable employment and career pathways but are not fully prepared for workforce training, apprenticeships, or entrance assessments because of gaps in literacy, mathematics, workplace readiness, and access to structured support. Families also continue to face challenges related to financial instability, educational inequities, mental health, and limited access to supportive services.​​​​​

Research consistently demonstrates that youth with access to mentoring and strong family support experience higher graduation rates, increased employment, improved mental health, reduced justice system involvement, and greater long-term economic stability. At the same time, engaged fathers contribute to stronger child development, improved educational outcomes, and healthier family relationships.

Our work focuses on creating measurable, lasting change for individuals, families, and communities, with a strong commitment to underserved communities and others facing barriers to opportunity.

Through advocacy, workforce development, responsible father engagement, mentorship, leadership development, mental health support, educational programming, wraparound services, and strategic community partnerships, HFAC works to:
